What does the Genet Workshop consist of?

The Genet Workshop takes place in the classroom or gym of the center and offers a hands-on experience with real animals from the Catalan environment.

During the activity, students:

  • They will meet the genet, a nocturnal mammal of the Catalan forests, and discover how it lives.
  • They will enjoy direct contact with 8 different species (birds of prey, small mammals and reptiles) under the supervision of educators.
  • They will actively participate: they will observe the animals, ask questions and reflect on how we can respect and protect these living beings.

Native animals that participate in the Genet Workshop

Taller de la Geneta per les escoles

Genet

A silent hunter of the Catalan forests: a long tail, eyes that glow at night and leaps between branches that sow surprise and admiration. This is the protagonist species of the workshop, perfect to arouse the curiosity of the students.

Seeing a jay with bright feathers helps children observe contrasts: daytime and nocturnal animals, silent and attention-grabbing ones.

Rabbit

Petting the European rabbit, with its soft fur and curious eyes, will ignite the students’ tenderness and awaken in them a strong commitment to caring for the nature of the Catalan forests.

Hen participates in the petting zoo workshop

Rooster

Observing the rooster in the workshop will help students understand that wild animals such as the genet can approach farms and that farmers must protect farm animals without harming the wild ones.

Ferret

The ferret and the genet share habitat and sometimes compete for the same spaces.

Collared dove

Using the example of the collared dove, students will understand why more and more wild animals are approaching cities in search of food, water and shelter.
