Native Fauna Workshop

The Native Fauna workshop is a complete natural science activity, which is developed directly in the students’ classroom. During the 2 hours that the workshop lasts, students come in direct contact with 15 species of animals that live in Catalonia.

It is a workshop developed in close collaboration with the General Directorate of the Environment and deals with the subject of the school curriculum of biology and ecology in a complex way. With real examples and personal experience, students will understand the concepts covered in the lessons.

How the workshop «Native Fauna» works

The educational team of the Zoo of the Pyrenees will bring 15 animals (aus, mammals and reptiles) directly to the classroom of the students or to the gym of the center. If it is decided to do the reduced modality «Meeting with native animals» only 9 animals will participate.

Their singularities:

Students will have the opportunity to:

  • To caress and get to know the touch of the skin, feathers and fur of these animals. To understand their adaptation to their lifestyle.
  • Feed a couple of animals and know their feeding habits.
  • Watch birds in flight
  • Ask questions and make contributions on species and topics related to the problem of native fauna.

Topics about the native fauna that are dealt with during the workshop

  • Biodiversity: trophic network
  • Protected animals / Native animals / Exotic animals / Invasive animals
  • Adaptation of animals to the natural environment and human action
  • Wildlife protection: getting to know and learning to respect native wildlife
  • Hypotheses and strategic and global thinking for the protection of native fauna

Modalities:

The workshop «Native fauna» can also be carried out during the Youth camps if they are located in the Catalan territory.
